We all have dreams.  Those ideas, thoughts, visions, that when we think about them, we get excited.  They’ve been there most our lives.  There’s a spark of adrenaline that happens when you think about them.  Or complete stillness.  And they make life exciting.  So why is it that the closer we get to our dreams, the harder it seems that they will become reality?  Shouldn’t it be the other way around?  That the closer they are, the closer they feel?

Yeah, I think it should feel that way, but it never does.  The closer you are, the harder it seems.  The farther away it feels.  The more confused you get.  The more doubts you have, the more fear shows up, more obstacles arise, and impossible road-blocks seem to get in the way.  Basically anything possible will happen to make you throw up your hands and say forget it.  It must not be “meant to be” since it’s so hard to get.

And you want to give up.  And want to turn around and go home.  Just like every other time in the past when you get close to your dream and then don’t follow through.  And then you feel bad about yourself.

This has been happening to me lately.

Right now I’m in our RV, driving through Kansas on the I-70.  Natalie and I set out to continue our RV road trip, but this time we upped the ante.  We brought along a good friend and videographer and we have a bigger message, with a bigger purpose.  As Girls Gone Moto.  To spread Random Acts of Kindness to complete strangers throughout the entire country, and coach people towards their own happiness, and have the whole thing video-taped for weekly webisodes and potentially a documentary.

And as we’re driving, looking at the serene pink and blue sunset ahead and yellow cornfields to the right and left of us, I can’t help but think that this is exactly where I’m supposed to be.  When we see the smiles on the faces of the postal workers who’s day we improved by bringing them balloons and a thank you card, or the 100% tip to a struggling waitress, we know that it’s the little things in life that make a big difference.  And I know I’m meant to be doing this right now.  Making people smile, speaking to people, and inspiring people to live their lives the way they want to.  I’ve dreamed this feeling before.

And that’s all fine and good, right now, in this moment, but honestly there have been a million things that have come up, just this week that almost had me quit and turn around. We’ve had over $1100 in repairs just in the past five days.  Spent three entire of those days in shops, been towed once, and called AAA twice.  Stayed up til 4:30am with a 24 hour mechanic, and replaced four tires.  And that’s on top of what we’ve already paid to just rent the RV.  At times, it feels never-ending.  We worry what will show up next, how we’re going to pay for it, and are constantly on lookout for funny smells or noises coming from the RV.  And at one of our lower points, at the tire shop when we were facing $850 in repairs, we all looked at each other and reminded ourselves that our mission is bigger than a few repairs.  That our dream is more important than the cost of four tires.  It’s just money.  And that we needed to trust that this is our path and things will work out.

And so we bought the tires, and did the repairs, and continued on our way.  Towards Kansas.

You see…getting closer to your dreams is always going to be scary.  It’s going to feel uncomfortable.  Things are going to come up to make you think you can’t afford it, or you can’t have it.  And I believe those are just tests to see how bad you really want it.

So the next time you find yourself close to your dream and facing obstacles, just bypass them.  Buy the tires.  Get the repairs.  Buy the plane ticket. It’s just money.  And in the grand scheme of life, your dreams are way more important than any of that stuff.  And you will know what you’re made of.  You will know how bad you want it.  And when you do finally get it, it’s going to taste even sweeter because you put in the work.

Go on.

What are your dreams?  What do you think is stopping you?  Leave me a comment so I can cheerlead you through it.

Also, here are a couple teaser videos from our first few days on our trip as well as our VERY FIRST EPISODE!!! I’m very excited to share this with you all. Our videographer Kat kills it.
