Tuesday Tips (for living awesomely): Sticks and Stones May Break My Bones, and Names Totally Hurt Too.
Technically, we all know gossip is bad; it doesn’t feel good (ultimately), it doesn’t do anyone any good, and it’s pretty much the opposite of kindness and compassion.
Although I do believe that the urge to gossip is a natural human tendency, and I’m no Mother Teresa and no one is perfect, I also believe that we can strive to be better; that we can focus more on enjoying and loving our own lives, then talking about other people’s (celebrity gossip included).
And if you get stuck, here is a simple tool you can use when you feel the urge to gossip. When you notice yourself wanting to talk about someone else, THINK before you speak.
Ask yourself:
T- Is it TRUE
H- Is it HELPFUL
I- Is it INSPIRING
N- Is it NECESSARY
K- Is it KIND
If the answer is no to any of these, don’t say what you’re about to say.
Take Charge Challenge:
So here is the challenge for Take Charge Tuesday of this week. Make an effort to “Think” before you speak, everyday for this entire week and see if you notice a difference in your day or in your life. Make sure you leave a comment on the Facebook page or blog to share your discoveries. I’ll be doing it along with you all. And get your friends involved…share this post with them! There’s nothing better than doing something fun (and beneficial for your life) with your girls. Leave a comment below if you’re IN.
This is great advice, Sally. I often talk and act too quickly- without thinking that even seemingly innocent words can be hurtful if expressed the wrong way. I am taking on this challenge for sure! :)
Hey Miss Shelly…I’m so glad you like it! And I totally know what you mean. I found this technique after a night of hard core gossiping. I woke up feeling icky, so decided to find some great tools to help. Do let me know how it’s going!!
As a FreeMason, we learned the triple filter of truth. It’s not that far off from this, and as a matter of fact, it is actually parts of this.
Sounds awesome, but I’m guessing you can’t tell me more :)
I can, my dear. Contrary to popular belief, very few things about Freemasonry are secret. The triple filter of truth actually comes from Socrates.
Here’s a link to what it is:
