Wildheart Celebrity, Brittany Norma: From Being Bullied To Doing Burlesque
The Wildheart Revolution opened its doors for the very first time three months ago.
And in that time, I have been absolutely, 100% BLOWN AWAY by all the members. They are fascinating, dynamic, and they each have a story to tell that we ALL can relate to.
And instead of just hogging all their brilliance to myself, I decided to share them with you.
Every one of them has something beautiful to teach us.
And today’s Wildheart Celebrity is no different. She is an inspiring girl who went from being bullied and feeling horrible about herself, to absolutely loving herself and her body and finally fulfilling one of her dreams…being a Burlesque dancer.
Here’s Brittany’s story. I hope you fall in love with her just like I have.
“Hi! I’m Brittany. I live in Melbourne, Australia. I spend most of my days working in a finance related call centre (bleurgh), and in my free time I love to blog, browse the interwebs, see my cats and friends and boyfriend, and do burlesque stuff. I’m currently Wildhearting by pursuing my creative dreams and helping to inspire others to love their lives and their bodies. And if I could give you one bit of advice it would be to go easy on yourself. We all feel this need to be perfect, but everything becomes easier when you let that go.”
In three sentences, give us the cliff notes version of your life. How did you get from where you were to where you are now?
By day boring ass call centre girl talking to people about retirement whilst browsing Facebook. By night, I’m often found doing burlesque classes, making costumes, working on my makeup skills and blogging, all whilst looking forward to cuddling with my cat.
All other times, I’m probably just glued to my phone or iPad, I have an addiction.
Tell us about your business/website/cause.
My website is called Pretty Cannibal Girl. Currently it’s a blog, where I write about my life, my views and lessons I’ve learnt. I also write about makeup, fashion and really, whatever tickles my fancy. I am working on launching a store on there as well, which will sell handmade accessories by me like fascinators, nipple pasties and all other sparkly necessities.
What do you love the most about your life?
It’s a split between my creative pursuits and the people I surround myself with.
What has been your biggest struggle and how did you get through it?
I guess my biggest struggle would be my self-confidence.
I was always bullied growing up, and always felt very ugly and fat.
I used to lay awake at night, wishing some magical fairy would come and take my fat away, and I’d wake up with an amazing life. As I got older though, I was spending more and more time listening to people like Gala Darling who helped me to see that I was suffering, and that I was special enough and deserving enough to love myself.
I began to surround myself with the things I loved more, and began to ‘fake’ my confidence…until I realized I no longer needed to fake it.
It’s still a work in progress, but by spending time with people who love and support me, by focusing on the brilliant things in my life and the wicked curves I have, I always manage to make myself feel great.
What has been your biggest personal breakthrough moment?
I’d say it was a few weeks ago, when I felt stressed at work and felt really down. I was thinking about the things that are stressful in my life, and compared them to what I’ve gone through in the past.
I began to realize that I had had the strength to get past worse (like an abusive relationship) and that I certainly was strong enough to get past my current situation, and that in time, this would pass too. It’s amazing what can happen when you acknowledge just how strong you are.
What is something we would never guess about you from looking at you?
That I am a massive softy, and I can get very shy. I am also quite introverted, and I love having time to myself.
What does it mean to you to be a Wildheart?
To me, being a wildheart is about living life on your terms. It’s about honouring your truth, and pursuing things that make you feel great. It’s about not just accepting average, but by seeking to live the best life possible. The richest friendships, most fulfilling career, following your creative energy and living your unique truth. It is divine, and it is freedom.
What has been your favorite Lesson and Heartwork inside the Wildheart Revolution?
I think honestly, I loved the lesson about finding your cosmic twinkle (if you want a sneak peak of this lesson, click here).
We do so much to pursue happiness, we work hard and we assess everything.
For me, the second I sat on the playground swing, I was instantly happy.
Soaring through the air laughing and giggling like I did as a kid was a perfect reminder to Carpe the hell outta my diem.
What is your favorite quote?
“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” – Roald Dhal
If you could speak directly to the next generation, what message would you want to give them?
Respect your environment. Seek to live your life with love, and to always remember to enjoy the little moments. With a little effort, every day can become special.
If we want to know more or get in touch with you, how can we find you?
I have a facebook page. I’m addicted to instagram, where I’m PRETTYCANNIBALGIRL and of course, my blog, Pretty Cannibal Girl.
